Yucca Palm's work at KGIA focused on students' relationships with their school community, their sense of belonging, and their interest in taking on leadership roles.
Student Belonging
By the end of the project period, students reported stronger connections to both peers and adults at school.
43% → 78%
Had someone to talk to
57% → 89%
Felt welcomed
50% → 78%
Felt that adults cared
Leadership
Interest in joining student council increased from:
50% → 78%
Students also reported improvement in restorative approaches to conflict, from 43% to 56%, though this remained the lowest-rated area.
What's Next
The year's results point to stronger relationships and greater interest in leadership. The next phase focuses on creating more structure for students to turn that interest into participation and shared ownership.
Cultural Awareness results were mixed and were affected by a change in the student cohort, so they should not be interpreted as a direct pre/post comparison.
